Personal Values and Motivation

What is it that motivates people to take action? What is the source of their desire to become involved in certain activities – or to avoid them? Why do people behave the way they do?

The answers lie deep within their unique set of personal interests, attitudes and values. These powerful motivating forces are the drivers of our behaviours, or the “why” of our behaviours, and will motivate us to take specific action. Identifying individuals’ values is important to understanding what makes them effective, satisfied and personally successful.

Six attitudes are the foundation for Success Insights motivation assessments, and it is those six major attitudes which form a window through which individuals view the world and look for fulfilment in their lives.

The Six Attitudes

  • Theoretical: A passion to discover, systematise and analyse; a search for knowledge.
  • Utilitarian: A passion to gain return on investment of time, resources and money.
  • Aesthetic: A passion to add balance and harmony in one’s own life and protect our natural resources.
  • Social: A passion to eliminate hate and conflict in the world and to assist others.
  • Individualistic: A passion to achieve position and to use that position to influence others.
  • Traditional: A passion to pursue the higher meaning in life through a defined system for living.

The results of the assessment produce a report that identifies an individual’s level on each of the six attitudes and determines his or her dominant motivator.
